Suspect needed in Prospect Park for tried rape incidents in Brooklyn

PROSPECT PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) – Police are looking for a man wanted in a Brooklyn park in connection with two sexual assaults.

Both worrying attacks occurred last Saturday, in the middle of the afternoon, when it was light and Prospect Park was filled with families.

The terrifying episodes took place in Prospect Park West and Fifth Street.

Police believe that a 34-year-old woman was attacked from behind and pushed against the rocks. She says a man put his hand over her mouth and when he pulled out a condom, she escaped.

A few hours later, detectives believe he struck again – this time he followed a 57-year-old woman and committed a lewd act on her.

There are now leaflets in this popular family neighborhood warning residents to be vigilant. A sketch of the suspect was provided by the victims.

Resident Kathy Nissenbaum said she did not recognize the suspect depicted in the sketch.
“No, not at all. You just have to be careful. Keep your wits about you,” said Nissenbaum. “Unfortunately, women have to protect themselves. That’s how it is.”
