Post-mortem: 12-year-old Brooklyn boy who died after an alleged blow of pure causes

FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) – The Chief Medical Examiner’s office ruled Wednesday that a 12-year-old boy who died after his family said he was beaten and bullied actually died of natural causes.

The autopsy revealed that Romy Vilsaint’s cause of death was a gastric ulcer and Helicobacter pylori infection.

His family filed court documents in May claiming he died of a head injury, was repeatedly bullied and neglected by school.

Vilsaint was a PS 361 student in Flatbush who was attacked after leaving school on Friday May 7th.

He told doctors and family members that he was hit in the head when he was released.

The family said a classmate paid $ 1 to beat Vilsaint, who later died at Kings County Hospital.

“This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with families at this incredibly difficult time,” said Nathaniel Styer, NYC Schools press secretary, following the incident. “The safety of our young people is an absolute priority for us and this incident is being thoroughly investigated and we support both the family and the school community.”
