As the city reopens, Willoughby Square 1 debuted in Downtown Brooklyn on Tuesday – the tallest commercial high-rise in the area since Downtown Brooklyn was rededicated in 2004.

Gustavo Rodriguez says he’s delighted that the 34-story building is coming to life after five years of construction.

“It’s been a rewarding experience to see all of these ideas that we discussed once got here and contributed to Brooklyn. We wanted to do something that was made for Brooklyn and to see it incorporated into Brooklyn now is rewarding, ”said Rodriguez.

Dozens gathered for the building’s opening on Tuesday. Economic Development Corporation and JEMB Realty Corporation celebrated the project, which will include a building with commercial office space and a 300-seat elementary school.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says this is a huge contribution to the district. He says New York City is open for business.
