March organized in New York’s Brooklyn in help of Palestine
new York [US], May 16 (ANI / Sputnik): Several hundred people have gathered in Brooklyn for a demonstration in support of the Palestinians, reports a Sputnik correspondent.
Protesters gathered Saturday and marched through the streets of Brooklyn, accompanied by police. They held Palestinian flags and banners reading “Free Palestine”, “Palestinian matter of life”, “Human rights for Palestinians”. So far the demonstration has been peaceful.
Participants in the demonstration told Sputnik that they were calling on the international community to “boycott Israel” and calling for an end to the bloodshed and Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
The current escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict began earlier this month when riots began in East Jerusalem over the decision of an Israeli court to evict several Palestinian families from the region. The situation on the border between Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip has deteriorated over the past week.
The Israeli army announced on Saturday that a total of 2,800 rockets had been fired from Gaza at Israel in the past few days, with 430 projectiles falling into the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military says it has launched strikes against 672 military targets in the Gaza Strip.
Several civilians and at least one soldier were killed in the exchange of missile strikes in Israel. To date, Palestine has reported over 140 deaths, including more than 40 among children. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, more than 1,300 Palestinians were injured in tensions with Israel. (ANI / Sputnik)
