Lady severely injured, 2 kids unhurt in tried automobile theft on Coney Island, Brooklyn

CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn (WABC) – A man was arrested Friday night for allegedly stealing two vehicles and beating a pedestrian in Brooklyn.

It happened on West 15 Street and Surf Avenue in Coney Island.

According to police, a 24-year-old suspect attempted to steal a vehicle that had a driver and two girls, ages two and 18 months, in it.

The alleged car thief put the car in reverse and, according to the authorities, hit a 40-year-old woman.

Then he fled and tried to ambush another female a short distance away.

Arriving officials finally took the man into custody.
It turned out that the suspect had been arrested days earlier for stealing another vehicle.
The ailing woman suffered serious injuries, the two small children and the second woman were uninjured.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Kahlil Ivey, is from Waterbury, Connecticut.

His charges include robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea commented on the incident on Twitter.
