Police say a 32-year-old woman was dead after gunfire broke out during a vigil on Monday evening.

Officers say two men got out of a light-colored limousine and began shooting around 11 p.m. on the corner of Park Place and Howard Avenue

Police said when they got to the scene, they found Shalimar Birkett from Queens on the street with a gunshot wound to the head. It is said that Birkett was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Authorities say it is not clear if she was the intended target.

Birkett took part in a vigil for 31-year-old Miles Bobbsemple, who, according to police, was taken to hospital after 12 noon on Monday.

Investigators say Bobbsemple had a gunshot wound to the chest and died a short time later.

No arrests were made in either of the shootings. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
