Father’s Day 2021: March of Dads rally in Brooklyn to help coloured fathers

PROSPECT PARK (WABC) – The “March of Dads” took place on Father’s Day morning in Brooklyn and gave fathers, especially those of color, the opportunity to socialize and build up a community.

Fathers brought their families and friends to a procession through Prospect Park.

Organizers said the annual event aims to change the way the world sees black fathers and minorities.

“That’s why we have this group to form a community with each other,” said New York City Councilor Kevin Riley.

The march also serves as an opportunity for fathers to find resources to become better parents.

“Fathers work hard for their children,” said rapper Fat Joe. “For the fathers who weren’t really there, they were young, they went through a lot, now they’re packing up their things, you are returning to the lives of your children.”

Event organizers also donated 200 strollers in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx this weekend.
