A heartbroken mother tries to understand why the woman she trusted to take care of her children took her to a reservoir in Staten Island.

It was an idea that became fatal when the mother’s 9-year-old daughter, Kyemani, fell into the water.

Mother Samara Mitchell hardly holds out. Yesterday afternoon, little Kyemani drowned after falling into Silver Lake on Staten Island. According to police, she was with seven other children and a 31-year-old woman when it happened.

Police say the children had their feet in the water when Kyemani somehow slipped into them. Mitchell says her 10-year-old daughter Kyemora tried to save her but it was too late. She says she regrets entrusting her child to the woman who still hasn’t called her.

All that remains for her family is memories and inconsolable pain.

“I’ve never let my kid go anywhere in nine years of his life. Once I trust this person and they let me down,” said Mitchell.

Investigators tell News 12 that the 31-year-old woman has been questioned by police but has not yet been charged.
