14 members of the Babiez gang arrested at takedown in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, New York (WABC) – Police arrested 14 suspects in a partial takedown in Brooklyn on Thursday morning.

Authorities say the NYPD Detective Bureau and Gun Violence Suppression Division performed a pre-dawn operation that was the result of a long-standing investigation.

The suspects arrested were all suspected members of the “Babiiez” gang that operates in and around Flatbush.

You were charged on 81 counts that included 11 shootings in the past two years.

“It is worrying that young people in our communities are involved in the kind of brazen and pointless gun violence described in these indictments,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “Keeping gunmen off the streets has been a focus of my office and the NYPD, and long-term research like this has had a real impact on restoring security and reducing violence in Brooklyn.”

Police said they used social media posts bragging about serious crimes to find their suspects.

“Our investigation has focused on the upper echelons of this street organization,” said NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea. “Our case focused on the violent street crime that all too often has ruined the lives of those who live and work in our Brooklyn neighborhoods.”
